Hannah Streefkerk (1973) studied at the Art Academy of Maastricht and Groningen. Her work is a combination of old embroidery techniques and landart. In her work she reduces the natural environment to patterns, rhythms, forms and structures. Each natural element contains visual information and expresses its own language. She represents this specific information by making a cutout and distilling the elements she regard as characteristic. Via photographs she translates these elements into embroidery works or spatial installations. She exhibited in Germany, France, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Argentina, Poland and the Ukrane. |

Restorations A lot of nature gets damaged by human influence or nature itself. When there is a hole in your socks or clothing you can repair it easy with some stitching and yarn. Nowadays people are not used to repair things anymore, they replace things. At I-park, Streefkerk made some repairings, just to show that things are worth it, to repair. And, while she is aware that the restorations are with a wink, because it is not possible to restore nature in this way, she hopes that maybe we will take better care for our surroundings after seeing this . . . |
