New York-based cellist, composer, and vocalist Jody Redhage is a passionate proponent of new music and chamber music. Praised for her “exceptional technical command” (Steve Smith, “Night After Night”), she is a highly regarded freelance cellist and new music performer, and has performed, recorded, and worked with many new music luminaries including George Crumb, Michael Gordon, David Lang, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, Julia Wolfe, and Lois Vierk, the Flux Quartet, and the Bang on a Can All-Stars. Jody has performed over 100 premieres and has participated in an array of experimental chamber music and solo projects. She simultaneously sings and plays cello, and has recorded a CD of nine commissions for her voice and cello titled “All Summer in a Day” (www.NewAmsterdamRecords.com) for which she has earned the praise, “a freewheeling, slightly edgy and altogether “different” kind of musical experience from a classical music artist other than typical crossover fare . . . highly rewarding and worthwhile” (All Music Guide). Jody composes for the cross-genre quartet Fire in July, blending the detail and sensitivity of chamber music with the drive and energy of pop and improvisation. Other notable collaborations include performances with pop groups including Neil Diamond, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Sufjan Stevens, Enya, Meatloaf, Clay Aiken, Duncan Shiek, and Guster, and she has appeared on ABC’s “The View,” NBC’s “The Today Show,” and the CBS “Early Show.” Tracks from “All Summer in a Day” have been aired on several NPR stations, including WNYC” “Evening Music,” and WFMU, on Counterstream Radio, and she has performed live on WAMC’s “Performance Today.” Jody has a bachelor’s degree from the University of California Berkeley and a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Upcoming performances are listed on www.jodyredhage.com. |
