This installation attempts to pit the natural state of decay with the human desire to cope and “hang on.” Three trees were chosen, each suffering structural or systematic damage from disease, lightning, or trauma, and set out to create “orthopedic-esque” braces to secure them, maintain them, and highlight their deformities. Drawing upon traditional carpentry techniques, I fabricated a series of rings, brackets, and pegs from wood that are secured fast to the trunks of the trees though friction, and that aesthetically contradict the organic nature of the trees with geometric joinery. |
