2016 Family Friendly Residency Application Materials

Guidelines for Submitting an Application to the
2016 Family Residency
Submission Deadline: March 7, 2016
[2/12/16]

Introduction
Applications to the I-Park Family Residency are processed through an online submission system. By clicking on the link below, you will be connected to the application system. If you are new to this system, you will first be asked to set up an account. Please be certain that the address you enter is your current mailing address and that the e-mail address you enter is for an account that you check regularly. These addresses will be our primary points of contact with you. If you already have an account with this service (SlideRoom), please go to the Account link and check that your information is still current.

Please at least scan the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document before applying so you can decide if this program is a good fit for you.

The entry fee is $30.00 and payments may be made by major credit or debit card. This fee helps to defray the costs associated with the selection process.

Submitting Your Previous Work Samples
Since this is an experimental program, you will be given a fair amount of latitude in terms of the quantity and type of sample materials you may submit. Our selection process is based on a 2-Step process, a Preview Round, which will involve a review of a very limited amount of material, and a more intensive Final Review Round. Only applicants who emerge as Finalists from the Preview Round will be evaluated during the Final Review Round.

For the Preview Round, you have 2 choices:
      •  You must submit up to 6 image files – OR
      •  You may instead submit a single Primary Video File, a single Primary Text File or a single Primary Audio File. The selection panel will review up
to 4 minutes of content if you submit a video or audio file; if you submit a text file, up to 4 pages of text will be read if you submit a text file

In either case, all the above files must be properly labelled, where indicated, as your Primary Files.

You must also submit two additional files, of any type, that will be available for review in the event you become a Finalist. These two files must be labelled, where indicated, as your Supplementary Files. File size restrictions are defined in the Media Section of the application form. Although you are permitted to submit rather large files, you should consider that each juror will devote no more than 10 – 12 minutes to a review of this material as well as the information provided within your forms: basic personal information, career achievements, your residency project proposal, etc. Therefore, your selections should be strategic and, if appropriate, you should use the Designated Excerpt label to direct the panelists to that content which is most compelling.

Labeling Your Media Uploads
Each file you upload must be properly labelled. Some fields are required (*). The most important information in the Label Media section is where you designate your file as either a Primary or a Supplementary File. Only your Primary Files will be reviewed in the Preview Round of the selection process. Be careful to upload no more and no less than what’s specified above. While most of the responses requested in the Label Media section are straight-forward, we suggest that you use the Description field to note: any awards or media recognition/coverage associated with the work, your personal involvement in the project or piece, where the piece presently resides, (if a music composition) when and where the piece was premiered, etc.

Notes, Suggestions
Eligibility for Return Residencies: I-Park fellows are welcome to apply for a return residency. However, fellows should carefully read the FAQ for current eligibility guidelines before beginning the application process.

File Limitations: The system will not allow you to upload files exceeding certain size limitations. If your file is not accepted by the system, you may need to re-size it to conform to these limits.

Embedded Media: You can now embed media into your portfolio from the following external sites: YouTube, Vimeo and SoundCloud.

Print Instructions: Click here for a printable version of these instructions. You may find it helpful to have a paper copy at your side during the application process.
